BioCurrently I'm a graduate student in Santa Cruz, CA, where I study sedimentation patterns in Papua New Guinea by listening to wet sand. Previously I spent some time restoring ancient manuscripts, being a thespian, and researching algorithms for space-borne target detection. That was all before I successfully escaped Rochester, NY, no small feat. Even longer ago, I recall wanting to be a doctor - after all, one could help other people and be well paid. It was during high school that I decided both of those values were bunk. In college, I realized the latter could be useful in moderation, and the former wasn't so bad in some cases. Hence, the happy middle road of Science, rounded off with strange literature, interesting people, and a natural beauty that forbids you to take it for granted - Santa Cruz was inevitable.
